Tours: Vilhelms Purvītis (1872-1945)

This tour is focused on one of the most important artists in Latvian history. Vilhelms Purvītis was globally known as a landscape artist. He was one of the founders of the Latvian national school of art. He established the Latvian Academy of Art and served for many years as director of the Rīga City Museum of Art. The Latvian National Museum of Art has the world’s largest collection of artworks by Purvītis. More than 20 of his paintings are on display. There were produced from the late 19th century until the 1930s, and they reflect the styles that were characteristic of that era – Realism, Impressionism, Art Nouveau, etc.
