The Restoration Department
The Restoration Department of the Latvian National Museum of Art takes care of the nearly 94,000 items that are in its collection, as well as those of the Romans Suta and Aleksandra Beļcova Museum and the Latvian Museum of Decorative Arts and Design. The department analyses the technical condition of the various artworks, offering restoration and conservation services for them. The museum’s restorers work with art that is on display and art that is behind the scenes. They also work with new items in the collection, whether they have been submitted permanently or temporarily. The Restoration Department prepares artworks for exhibition, creating frames and framing artworks. It also offers consultations to other museums on the proper conservation of works of art.
