Lessons in the Museum: Space and Art
Target audience: 7th to 9th grade students
This activity introduces students to elements and aspects of artworks which speak to the importance of space in its art and the way in which space is depicted in art. Students look at the composition of artworks, the depiction of perspectives, the ideological importance of the artwork in relation to the existing time and space, as well as outdoor art. By comparing and evaluating artworks, students learn about the way in which the world of art and its space developed also looking at the diversity of types and directions in this world. The activity involves a conversation, as well as the creative process of drawing. The theme is interpreted and adapted in accordance with the content of the activity, and the diversity will depend on that of the temporary exhibitions that are at the museum at the time of the activity. The theme may be narrowed to focus on one or just a few aspects of the activity.
The activity is linked to the 7th to 9th grade curriculum in the visual arts.
Bring along: Oil pastel chalks or coloured pencils
Fee for preschool children: Free + LVL 4 per group for guide services
Fee for schoolchildren: Entrance fee of LVL 1.50 (LVL 1.00 if the group has at least 10 people) + LVL 4.00 from the group for guide services.
If the activity is in the Arsenāls Creative Workshop, then the fee is LVL 0.50 + LVL 4.00 from the group for the guide.
