The fan is an accessory with a long history, which has been familiar in Europe from the 4th century BC. Over time, the shape of the fan has changed and been adapted to fashion trends, however, its main function – to cool down its carrier – has remained unchanged.

The Spanish flamenco fan also gets used as a choreographic element due to the fan’s capacity to stress its owner’s gestures. During the activity, participants will be introduced to the works to be looked at in the Prado 12 Characters Exhibition, and also learn how to make a fabric fan for themselves. Meanwhile, dancers from the Duende Dance Club will explain the fan’s use as an instrument of dance.
