Portraits and Individuals
Lesson for 5th – 9th graders

Pupils learn about various types of portraits – self-portraits, salon portraits, group portraits etc. Together with a museum specialist, they examine portraits in the exhibition, discuss who has commissioned them and why, and look for indicators of the sitter’s status, employment and personality.

The second part of the activity involves drawing images of artworks in the museum’s permanent exposition.

This activity is linked to the eighth-grade curriculum in the visual arts, related to portraiture in terms of light and shadow.
