On Thursday, June 28th, Art Museum RIGA BOURSE invites you to the concert of unique nomadic piano player Marc Vella from France.
Marc Vella began to tame the piano at the age of four and will not leave it alone. He studied the piano at the Ecole Normale de Musique, Paris (ENM) and taught there for several years. His compositions have received Prize for Composition at the ENM, Paris in 1985 and First prize for Composition at the TIM, Rome 1999. His works have been published and played at International piano competitions. Numerous festivals of sacred music have welcomed him. He was especially invited by “Jubilatio” for the 1997 visit of Pope Jean-Paul II to Paris. Virtuoso pianist, winner of the Prize for Composition in Paris in 1985 and 1st Prize for Composition at the TIM in Rome 1999, he gives recitals all over the world. He has recorded eight CDs to date.
At the age of 24, having acquired his first grand piano, he decided to escape the concert halls to offer his music to those who have no access to such venues. He plays where we are unused to seeing a man in tuxedo and even less so, a grand piano. In 25 years Marc Vella and his piano have travelled over 200 000 km of roads, in around forty countries to celebrate Humanity: The Malagasy bush, African villages, Eastern European countries, The Sahara, Indian shanty towns, the mountains of Pakistan...
Marc Vella is an eccentric Explorer. He’s using varicordes which are the fruit of joint studies made by the composer and the sculptor Jean-Jacques Lamenthe. Conceived specially for the piano, ergonomic, light, uncluttered, they give the piano a totally new orchestral dimension. Thanks to these, his music is unique and allows him to start resonating with musicians anywhere on the planet. Thanks to the variacordes which he has devised, his piano music is unique. Improvisation is at the heart of Marc Vella’s music and on 2011 he created the “Festival de la Touche” in the Charente, dedicated to piano improvisation.
As highly skilled speaker, he is the creator of the “Concerts d’émergence” (Emergence Concerts) and regularly gives courses “Live differently - the music of the life” intended for professional musicians and the layman alike. Creator of “La Caravane amoureuse”(The Caravan of Love)- participant in The International Decade for the Promotion of a Culture of Nonviolence and Peace. Leader: UNESCO - He takes people with him to say “I love you” to others. To date, about twenty countries have been “lovingly conquered” …
The concert at the Art Museum RIGA BOURSE will be first time when Marc Vella gives a performance in Latvia. The programme will include his compositions and improvisations that will take the listeners to unheard and original world of his music.
