The Silver Cabinet, next to the Western Gallery, is comparatively modest in size. We could even say it is more symbolic. Nevertheless, this display marks the very important time when the Latvian state was being formed.
At the same time it is the origin of this museum when some of the artistically valuable works of the State Gold Fund found their home in the newly founded State Museum of Art (1920). Many of these objects were donated to the state. Although most of the silver items were produced in earlier centuries, in general the cabinet is dedicated to the period of the awakening of national self-consciousness at the beginning of the 20th century.
