Online discussion: Baltic Contemporary Ceramics – Today and Tomorrow

The program of the exhibition “CREO ERGO SUM” includes the online discussion “Baltic Contemporary Ceramics – Today and Tomorrow”, in which representatives of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia will introduce a portrait of contemporary ceramics today and outline future opportunities.

The curator of the exhibition and the marketing specialist at the Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Center, Aivars Baranovskis, will point out the most important personalities who have created the image of Latvian ceramics as we see it today. The presentation will include the main activities of the Latvian Center for Contemporary Ceramics and the Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Center.

 

Aurelija Seilienė, a representative of the Ceramics Pavilion of the Panevėžys City Art Gallery, will introduce the Lithuanian ceramics scene. Seiliene will also explain how old traditions are reflected in contemporary ceramics.

 

Pille Kaleviste, a Board member of the Estonian Ceramics Association, will talk about the situation of contemporary ceramics in Estonia. In this presentation, the emphasis will be on ceramic artists whose works are displayed in the exhibition, as well those without whom Estonian ceramics cannot be imagined. Pille Kaleviste will also focus on the beginning of professional ceramics in Estonia.

 

After the presentations, Dace Ļaviņa, Curator of the Latvian Ceramics Collection of the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design, will moderate a short discussion with the aim to model perspectives of future development and cooperation of ceramics in the context of the Baltic States.

 

The event will be held in English.
