The Design Collection

The Design collection was started in 2006 and its priority is the collection and acquisition of industrial design objects which were either created by Latvian designers or at least Latvian designers had participated in the process of their creation on the level of innovative ideas or technical performance.

The collection comprises also high standard design objects by foreign artists as well as the best examples of unique design. The collection comprises more than 100 objects including those executed by Māra Skujeniece, Juris Mednis, Valters Kiršteins, Laima Kaugure (Studio NATURALS) etc., as well as industrial design objects produced at the most significant factories of the past century in Latvia. The collection boasts the full overview of the BLUE microphones. This brand of high quality mikes, established by the Latvian designer Mārtiņš Saulespurēns has won acclaim all over the world and has received several prestigious design awards.

The Museum has also developed good cooperation with the Design Information Centre and traditionally participates in the annual Days of Design in Latvia. The collection of design has been constantly supplemented with new acquisitions and information about the design award holders, various competitions and professional activities in the field, pointing out the most essential achievements in the field of design in the past years and the most topical ones today.
