Janis Rozentals. The Dance of Life

From scenes of the folk life to visions of the Symbolism – in the exhibition of the most popular and versatile Latvian artist of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries Janis Rozentāls (1866–1916), the spirit of the era merges with his own “dance of life”.

Latvian modernist Romans Suta, explaining the phenomena of his popularity, has said about Rozentāls:“With his enthusiastic and enthusing personality, Rozentāls was the first to awaken the Latvian nation’s interest in the visual arts. In this sense he was the first love of the Latvian nation and will remain as such forever.”
